“Stop talking”

This was one of the best pieces of advice that I got from my Functional Medicine doctor when I was at my sickest with adrenal fatigue.

“Only speak when absolutely necessary. And say so little that people notice that you aren’t talking.”

I’m not a big ‘talker’ anyways. I don’t do idle chitchat, I don’t give lengthy speeches to my kids when they are in trouble and I don’t love talking on the phone or to people I don’t know well.

I do like conversations full of value, inspired thoughts and ones that are funny though.

I stopped talking. So much that people asked me why I wasn’t saying anything.

Here’s what I learned:

1. We talk way to much. We fill silences with words that don’t need to said and spaces that don’t need to be filled.

2. We justify our decisions with too many words.

3. Talking expends a lot of energy. Be careful how much of it you are wasting with too many words.

4. Silence is golden and very powerful. I found that I was heard MORE by my kids, my husband, and my clients when I said less.

Try it.
Go a little silent.
See how much more importance you put on the words you select when you speak less.

When you speak less, you hear more.

You hear all of the words but more importantly, you hear what isn’t said, you feel the emotions and you understand on a deeper level.

Get quiet. Your conversations will get deeper when you do.

What are you choosing to focus on?

When something happens (because stuff always happens), what are you looking at?

Do you focus on all the negative stuff?
Do you go straight to problem solving?
Do you look for the lesson?

How do you react?

Are you dramatic?
Are you complacent?
Are you accepting of what is?

All of this matters.

Why?

Well, stuff is always going to happen in our lives. Things that we don’t want to happen will still happen and how you CHOOSE TO LOOK AT IT defines how you will REACT TO IT and take the action needed to CHANGE IT.

So, how do you choose to look at things? The sooner that you can accept what is, make a plan and see the lesson, the faster you will move through the situation and continue to create what you most in your life.

I dive into this even more in one my latest podcast episodes. Take a listen to Episode 117: Choose to look at it that way to learn more about the importance of how you look at things at what you can do to shift how you see things. If this message resonates with you, please share it, rate and review it on iTunes for me or sign up to never miss an episode on iTunes here and PASS IT ON. I’d really appreciate it.

You are in charge of how you choose to look at things and ultimately your reaction and the action you take to try to change it. It’s always your choice.

Live your life with purpose, do YOU.

Simplify it!

Keep the simple stuff SIMPLE.

That is seriously one of the biggest ways to conserve your energy, save time and get more stuff done.

I’ve worked very hard to simplify things in my life so that when something goes sideways, I have the time, energy and effort to deal with it or when I have a big project I’m working on or the girls need something, I have the time, energy and effort to deal with.

I keep my home simple (aka clutter free and everything put away, every night).

I keep the meals simple (clean eating with a focus on organic meat and a ton of veggies and fruit) and I make a weekly meal plan (doubling recipes for nights when I’m busy and crock potting on the other days).

I shop on the same day, I work during a certain time each day and I do laundry on the weekend. Simple.

I keep what I wear simple (black and blue jeans and red lips pretty much daily).

I keep my and my girls morning and evening routines on point and simple.

KEEP THE SIMPLE STUFF SIMPLE.

Don’t complicate it.
Don’t dramatize it.
Don’t make it harder.

Drop the stories that you are creating from the simple stuff.

That way, you are READY for when the big stuff happens. You will need the extra energy for the crises, for the celebrations and for the big shifts in your life.

Live your life with purpose, do YOU!

Are you LIVING based on the CALL of YOUR SOUL?

Today…will it be filled with busywork or meaningful, significant things that move you towards your reason why?

Today…will you learn, grow and expand in anyway to strengthen your mindset and skillset?

Today…will you feel energized or exhausted most of the day?

Today…did you fill most of the hours doing the things that you love and move you towards the life, the relationships, the body and the business and career that you truly want or will you just do things?

LIVE the LIFE you want on a DAILY BASIS.

Make every action, every word spoken and every interaction one that provides you with the experience that you want to have and is focused on your reason why.

Enjoy EACH day in a big way.

The victory may come at the end but it’s the days in between that feed your soul.

Live your life with purpose, do YOU!

Why do we SABOTAGE ourselves?

We figure out what we want…that dream, desire or goal or intuitive hit that we had.

We are super excited.

We overcome the fear and the resistance and take the first step.

It feels exhilarating, liberating, exciting and like it is all finally coming together.

Then we take the next few steps. And maybe even months worth of action.

We start seeing momentum. We start seeing success. We are getting closer to what we truly want. The 15 lbs out of 20lbs of weight has been lost. Our relationship is more committed and we are enjoying each other’s company again. The business is taking off and the new offer/product/service is gaining traction. Our career is thriving with our renewed focus. We are meditating, going to bed early and clean eating daily and feeling the positive effects on our energy.

And then….

We begin to sabotage our progress. We stop being as methodical in our practices, we intentionally say something we know will trigger our partner, we go out and buy donuts, we start watching late night TV again….

WHY?

Why do we do SO MUCH work to then ‘blow it all up’, ruin the results and basically go back to what we were doing before?

Because change is scary. Because we aren’t naturally wired to step outside our comfort zone. Because we may have prepared for the actions but we didn’t prepare our mind.

We sabotage ourselves because we haven’t trained ourselves to keep going regardless of thoughts, feelings, emotions and moods.

We haven’t really defined our reason why or it’s not big enough for us to keep our momentum going.

We aren’t reminding ourselves everyone morning on a daily basis of what we truly want and why.

We aren’t holding ourselves accountable and doing what we said we would.

We aren’t doing a daily practice of appreciation and gratitude so that we are consciously aware of how far we have come.

If you are currently SABOTAGING YOURSELF in some way (in any area of your life from finances to relationships to your work to your health and well-being), ask yourself WHY?

And then get back on track. Identify what needs to shift.

Do you need to…

  • Keep going regardless of how you feel?
  • Revisit and redefine your reason why?
  • Refine how you plan for your day and ensure you are committed each morning?
  • Actually do what you say you were going to do?
  • Appreciate more daily of where you were and where you’re headed?

Realize what you need to do. Then, re-commit.

And go do it!

OR

Keep sabotaging yourself and don’t realize your dreams.

This choice is up to you.

Strategize your Life, do YOU.
