Do you have a song?

This song carried me through the hardest days after my baby died…

When I look at the lyrics, I’m not certain it was all of them or more just the “its’a great day to be alive” part and the music that spoke to my heart. The song is by Travis Tritt (yep, I’m a country girl) and it would magically appear on the radio just when I needed some hope and trust that I could walk through the loss of my baby.

It made me focus on what was GREAT about the day, APPRECIATE what I did have, and be GRATEFUL for what lay before me as possibility.

We all need this kind of faith and trust when we are going through those tougher days or those big life crises.

I recorded a podcast about the song and it’s impact on my life that I would love for you to listen to. It’s actually the first time that I have shared how this song carried me through some of my darkest hours.

Episode 141: It’s a Great Day to BE Alive

I am excited to announce to you that my book When the Meaning is Lost is available now. Click here to buy the book.

The book is about my journey through the void, grief and living fully once again after the loss of my baby, a divorce, my health and walking my daughter through the loss of her best friend. I share what I have learned from my experiences about living and recreating meaning again when something significant happens in your life that changes everything.

The reviews of the book have been all that I could have hoped for thus far and I am so grateful for them and the impact the book is already making. I wanted to share a few of them with you here:

“Jill’s book is heartfelt, powerful, & shared from the soul. She details some of her most personal life experiences & incredible losses in such a way that you cannot help being profoundly moved. Her life’s painful losses and incredible challenges are detailed along with her overwhelming will and determination to always find a way to RISE again by seeking out and creating meaning in them all. This book will have you in awe of her abilities as an incredible woman, mother, wife, businesswoman, and beautiful friend to find the strength & look for the meaningful reasons to continue to lift ourselves out of the voids we experience. This is a must read. You will feel her pain and revel in her triumphant outlooks. Moving. Inspiring. Meaningful. She teaches us that our souls can be crushed in life and it will change us but we will be recreated and walk through the fires, emerging a stronger and more refined version of ourselves.”

“Everyone at some moment in their life will experience a loss, a job, a relationship, or the death of a loved one. Half memoir, half self-help, “When the Meaning is Lost” by Jill Ethier is a must read for anyone who has experienced grief in any form. Jill shows true and triumphant courage as she explores and dissects the tragic losses she has experienced. She shares her raw truth with a genuine passion to help others move through their grief to a place that blooms with growth, grace, and freedom.”

“What a Journey for Jill! I was worried I didn’t have time to read it….and I sat down to start and never put it down. You will cry, you will feel acknowledged, you will heal. I felt so encouraged after reading Herstory to keep moving forward in my life no matter what. I felt heard, seen & acknowledged through Her journey for mine….I hope she will have a book club group so we can all hang out and discuss! Thank you Jill for baring your soul and helping us collectively as women acknowledge and move through life’s hardships and pain. I SEE YOU and through that reflection I SEE ME clearer”

What’s your WHY?

Knowing WHY you want something different in any area of your life (in your relationships, with your work, for your health and in your personal growth) is the ONE THING that will keep you going when you want to quit.

And you will want to quit at some point.

At some point, the work won’t be fun, there will be so many things to overcome that it will feel hard to continue and the way won’t always be totally clear.

Your reason WHY, the deep reason WHY you want to shift your life will keep you going, keep you focused and create the pull needed to not stop.

Want to know how to figure out your reason WHY?

Listen in to Episode 136: Choosing your WHY of Ninja Jill KNOWS.

Your reason why is the vital component in fulfilling your purpose, following the call of your soul and creating more of the life that you want.

Do you KNOW yours?

Is it clear?

If not listen in and share this with anyone you know that needs to figure theirs out too and if you need a little extra help, check out this worksheet to help you determine your why. Click here for the free worksheet.

It’s easy to be hard on yourself

Being kind to you is hard.

It’s easy to see the negative in the situation. Focusing on and learning the lesson can be hard.

It’s easy to blame everyone else for the issues in your life. It’s hard to take full responsibility for the state of your life.

It’s easy to quit. It’s hard to stop stopping.

It’s easy to put it off, make a bunch of excuses and stay in your comfort zone. It’s hard to take the leap, keep doing the work even when you don’t want to and get comfortable being uncomfortable.

You can choose easy but it will be hard to actually achieve your dreams, desires and goals.

OR

You can choose hard and with it, strengthen your mindset and realize that the capacity and personal growth that happens when it’s hard actually helps you achieve your dreams, desires and goals.

Are you choosing easy or are you willing to expand and grow and live the life you truly want?

And remember, it’s only “hard” if you believe it be.

“Stop talking”

This was one of the best pieces of advice that I got from my Functional Medicine doctor when I was at my sickest with adrenal fatigue.

“Only speak when absolutely necessary. And say so little that people notice that you aren’t talking.”

I’m not a big ‘talker’ anyways. I don’t do idle chitchat, I don’t give lengthy speeches to my kids when they are in trouble and I don’t love talking on the phone or to people I don’t know well.

I do like conversations full of value, inspired thoughts and ones that are funny though.

I stopped talking. So much that people asked me why I wasn’t saying anything.

Here’s what I learned:

1. We talk way to much. We fill silences with words that don’t need to said and spaces that don’t need to be filled.

2. We justify our decisions with too many words.

3. Talking expends a lot of energy. Be careful how much of it you are wasting with too many words.

4. Silence is golden and very powerful. I found that I was heard MORE by my kids, my husband, and my clients when I said less.

Try it.
Go a little silent.
See how much more importance you put on the words you select when you speak less.

When you speak less, you hear more.

You hear all of the words but more importantly, you hear what isn’t said, you feel the emotions and you understand on a deeper level.

Get quiet. Your conversations will get deeper when you do.

What are you choosing to focus on?

When something happens (because stuff always happens), what are you looking at?

Do you focus on all the negative stuff?
Do you go straight to problem solving?
Do you look for the lesson?

How do you react?

Are you dramatic?
Are you complacent?
Are you accepting of what is?

All of this matters.

Why?

Well, stuff is always going to happen in our lives. Things that we don’t want to happen will still happen and how you CHOOSE TO LOOK AT IT defines how you will REACT TO IT and take the action needed to CHANGE IT.

So, how do you choose to look at things? The sooner that you can accept what is, make a plan and see the lesson, the faster you will move through the situation and continue to create what you most in your life.

I dive into this even more in one my latest podcast episodes. Take a listen to Episode 117: Choose to look at it that way to learn more about the importance of how you look at things at what you can do to shift how you see things. If this message resonates with you, please share it, rate and review it on iTunes for me or sign up to never miss an episode on iTunes here and PASS IT ON. I’d really appreciate it.

You are in charge of how you choose to look at things and ultimately your reaction and the action you take to try to change it. It’s always your choice.

Live your life with purpose, do YOU.
